Related work: The PSA is intended to use certain baseline flight hardware being developed by the JSC Engineering directorate such as the Space Station Computer and ISS Operational LAN. Ongoing discussions, technical exchange meetings and collaborative efforts have outlined areas of independent research and development. PSA will use the Mobile Intranet which incorporates the 1553 avionics bus gateway developed at Ames Research Center (ARC) for dissemination of Station status and payload data. High-rate telemetry links are being investigated in conjunction with JSC groups considering upgrades to the Station communications system. Investigations into multi-cell RF wireless networks are being conducted at the request of the Operational LAN project. The Portable Advisory Systems (PAS) project will develop and flight-test a suitable handheld Portable Assistant in collaboration with the JSC Astronaut Office. The applications and sensors from the handheld Portable Assistant will be hosted over to the PSA platform as a way to evolve the PAS capabilities. |
